What Is The Difference Between Aluminum Hydroxide And Alumina

- May 29, 2018 -

Aluminum hydroxide is obtained from bauxite by special process, and then calcined to obtain alumina. So the quantity of raw materials is the same, and they agree with different links in the production process. What are the differences between them?

Next, we will understand the difference between them from two aspects: physical properties and chemical properties.

1, physical properties: alumina is a white, insoluble solid, with a high melting point. Aluminum hydroxide is a white colloidal substance, which is insoluble in water and strong in adsorption. It can adsorb suspended solids and various pigments in water.

2, chemical properties: alumina is a typical amphoteric oxide, not reacting with water, and can react with acid and alkali; the chemical properties of aluminum hydroxide are unstable, heat easily decomposed, insoluble in weak acids and weak bases, and dissolved in strong acids and strong bases, commonly used to identify Al (OH) 3.

3, usage: alumina is mainly used for refractory materials at high temperature, and aluminum hydroxide plays a very good role in various fuel industries and medicine.

Aluminum hydroxide and alumina have different points in many aspects, so when choosing products, they can only purchase the corresponding products according to the industries to be used.
